It will not surprise you either that the island has a healthy number of sailing clubs, and harbour slipways for visiting vessels. You'll find information on maritime services and facilities provided by the council and other organisations on the Isle of Anglesey County Council website - Isle of Anglesey County Council - Maritime services.
“When you have an island like Anglesey with so many sailing clubs, harbours and beaches” explains Tim Hall, Director of Sailing with the Welsh Yachting Association, “youngsters are immersed in it from the cradle”.
Currently there is a crop of talented sailors wearing Great Britain colours at various levels, the Môn brothers, Bleddyn, Eifion, and Dyfrig of Red Wharf Bay, and then Huw and Tom Humphreys.
There may be rugby and soccer fields nurturing great talents throughout Wales, but Anglesey is a different culture. You are never far from the coast, and certainly not far from the sea breeze.
There is an abundance of sailing clubs – Red Wharf Bay, Holyhead, Rhosneigr, Trearddur Bay, and two, (the Royal Anglesey and the North West Venturers Yacht Club) at Beaumaris. Give them a call or pay a visit.
